Youth group Anakbayan strongly condemns ongoing demolition of the Bayview Drive community in Barangay Tambo, Paranaque, calling this morning’s operation “illegal”.
“Ilegal ang demolisyong ito. Walang relokasyon; walang demolition order; walang mandatory pre-demolition conference; walang notice; at hindi pa tapos ang kaso ng mga residente!” asserted Danday. (This demolition is illegal! There is no relocation; no demolition order; no mandatory pre-demolition conference; no notice; and to top it off, the legal case of the residents is still ongoing!) said Anakbayan spokesperson Alex Danday.
According to the residents, the demolition is being railroaded in order to give way to Chinese business interests entering the area—displacing familied who have lived on and rented the lot for decades
This morning, 60 families faced around 300 demolition team members, supported by 50 PNP personnel and 20 heavily-armed SWAT descended on the community to implemenent the railroaded demolition.
Police broke through the barricades and forcibly entered houses, as the demolition team dragged residents’ belongings into the street.
As of press time, residents have been barricaded in by the police and demolition teams, and arresting teams and SWAT members are roaming the compound, arresting a community organizer on charges of obstruction of justice. An Anakbayan youth leader is also being hunted by the police and is being threatened with arrest.
Demolition teams are expected to continue their assault on the community at 3:30 PM this afternoon.
“Ipinapakita ng demolisyong ito ang pa-traydor na pagpanig ng rehimeng Duterte sa mga negosyo ng dayuhan laban sa karapatan ng mga Pilipino!” (This demolition shows the traitorous Duterte regime siding with foreign business interests over the rights of Filipinos!), said Danday.
Anakbayan, together with other youth organizations stand with the residents of Bayview Drive in the fight for decent housing for all!
