Oplan Kapanatagan, the fascist Duterte regime’s anti-insurgency drive, is on overdrive. In Bukidnon alone–home to various plantations-turned-killing-fields under the vengeful watch of local officials, feudal warlords, and imperialist forces–9 extra-judicial killings have been recently recorded.
Today, Datu Mario Agsab was shot dead at 7am this morning at home in Cabanglasan, Bukidnon. Part of the Umayamnon Tribe and an active leader of the PIGYAYUNGA-AN Lumad organization, he was murdered by the paramilitary group Alamara backed by CAFGU affiliated with the 8th Infantry Battalion.
Yesterday, Joel Anino was reported to have been shot at home in San Fernando, Bukinon on July 6, around 6.30am. A member KASAMA-Bukidnon, the local chapter of Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, he died while being treated at Malaybalay General Hospital around 9am.
Bukidnon has been suffering under intense militarization since martial law was imposed on Mindanao.
US-funded militarization has been largely to blame for the record-high numbers of peasant extra-judicial killings in the countryside. From then till now, it is the Philippine Army that inflicts the worst violence on their own countrymen simply for the latter’s struggle for land and justice. Since Duterte came to power, 213 peasants have been slain in relation to land disputes.
